SURVIVAL IN THE NORTHERN WILDERNESS

The destruction of a portion of the Perfidious landing force has left many survivors stranded deep within the frozen mountains of northern Varkesh, hundreds of kilometres from the intended landing zone. Communications remain sporadic, temperatures continue to fall, and hostile creatures are said to roam the wilderness.

For the duration of their time in the mountains, survival itself will become the primary concern.

The stranded force must secure enough supplies not only to survive the freezing wilderness, but also to prepare for the long journey south toward friendly territory. Food, fuel, and medical resources will become increasingly vital as the situation deteriorates.

Supplies may be gathered through:

• Event participation.
• Hunting expeditions.
• Roleplaying efforts around camp.

Ongoing Conditions
  • The mountains are icy cold with night temperatures plummeting below -30c at night. Those with Tapas 3+ may use this power to resist the bite of the cold, but maintaining it for prolonged periods would be draining.
  • Communication systems are limited due to ongoing electronic warfare efforts from the enemy as well as the tall mountain peaks. The player characters will only be able to received sporadic updates.
  • There are no medical facilities. Injuries may only be treated by medicine recovered from missions.

COMMUNAL SUPPLY POOL

All resources are tracked as a shared communal pool representing the collective survival capability of the stranded force.

ResourcePurpose
Food SuppliesRations, preserved meat, hunted game, edible flora and other consumables required to prevent starvation.
Fuel SuppliesHeating fuel, reactor cells, power packs, burnable salvage and other resources used to maintain warmth and operate survival equipment.
Medical SuppliesBacta, surgical tools, field dressings, stimulants, pain suppressants and emergency medical resources required to stabilise the wounded.

DAILY CONSUMPTION

Each day the stranded force consumes:

• 25 Food Supplies
• 25 Fuel Supplies

This consumption occurs automatically at the end of each in-character day.

If the communal supply pool lacks sufficient food or fuel to meet the required daily consumption, the survivors begin to suffer the effects of starvation, exposure, exhaustion, and worsening environmental conditions.

For each day there is a deficit there is a random chance player characters will be afflicted by an injury. These injuries will be issued by the DM based on their observations of roleplay to reflect the impact of starvation and the cold.

JOURNEY SOUTH REQUIREMENTS

To journey southwards safely, the Sith and Operatives will need to gather the following:

• 175 Food Supplies
• 175 Fuel Supplies

These supplies represent the minimum reserves required to sustain the force during the dangerous southern trek through the mountains and hostile frontier territories.

Failure to secure sufficient supplies may result in severe attrition, exposure, exhaustion, or loss of equipment during the journey.

The journey south will begin 06/06/26. It is expected to take a week to escape the mountains, but this week will occur off-screen.

MEDICAL SUPPLIES & INJURIES

Medical Supplies do not instantly heal injuries or remove normal recovery times. Instead, they represent the minimum level of treatment required to stabilise injuries sufficiently for continued survival in the wilderness.

Without adequate medical treatment, injuries may worsen, become infected, or prove fatal.

Medical Supply costs are based on injury severity:

Injury SeverityMedical Supply Cost
Minor Injury1
Modest Injury3
Major Injury5
Critical Injury10
Lethal Injury20

Please note:

• Using Medical Supplies does not remove downtime or recovery requirements.
• Players are still expected to follow the normal injury and recovery system.
• These supplies merely prevent deterioration and provide the minimum treatment necessary to continue surviving behind enemy lines.

Use of Medical Supplies must be logged in this thread.

HUNTING & SCAVENGING

15ad003e976854ac1890390850af46e8.jpg

During downtime or designated survival phases, individual characters may venture into the frozen wilderness to hunt, scavenge, explore, or search for supplies.

Each participating character rolls in the #Paradise Rolls channel: 1D20. No re-rolls are permitted. For that reason, it might make sense to choose your hunters carefully, so an essential character isn't needlessly risked.

The result determines what that individual encounters during their expedition. These outcomes are intentionally broad and may be interpreted differently to allow for individual stories.

All recovered supplies are added to the communal group supply pool. An update must be posted in this thread to confirm what supplies were gathered.

HUNTING & SCAVENGING TABLE

Roll
Outcome
1
Disaster strikes somewhere within the frozen wilderness. Whether through collapsing ice, exposure, avalanches, or catastrophic equipment failure, the expedition goes terribly wrong. The character suffers a Critical Injury and recovers no supplies.
2
Something dangerous finds the expedition before the expedition finds anything useful. A sudden attack, violent environmental hazard, or desperate struggle leaves the character wounded and forced to retreat. The character suffers a Major Injury and recovers no supplies.
3
Hours are spent battling the brutal cold, difficult terrain, and worsening exhaustion. Though the character survives the ordeal, they return to camp battered and frostbitten after finding nothing of value. The character suffers a Major Injury.
4
An abandoned wreck or damaged structure proves unstable during the search. Though partially injured by falling debris, electrical discharge, or collapsing ice, the character manages to escape back to camp. Gain 1 The character suffers a Modest Injury.
5
The hunter vanishes into snowstorms, ravines, or frozen forests for hours before eventually finding their way back to camp, exhausted and sick. Valuable time is lost, supplies are wasted, and nothing useful is recovered. The character suffers a Modest Injury.
6
The wilderness offers nothing but bitter wind and endless snow. The expedition returns cold, tired, and empty-handed.
7
Signs of life or possible salvage are discovered within the wilderness, tracks in the snow, distant lights, old structures, movement through the trees, but nothing can ultimately be secured.
8
The character spends hours searching frozen wreckage, caves, ruined outposts, or buried supply routes only to discover that anything valuable has long since been stripped away or destroyed.
9
Scattered wreckage and damaged equipment are recovered from the ice. Most of it is useless, but enough burnable material, power cells, or reactor fuel remains to slightly improve the camp’s situation. Gain 8 Fuel Supplies.
10
A pair of Ice Vunkers are successfully tracked and hunted somewhere within the snowy wilderness. Their meat and hides provide a modest but welcome contribution to the camp. Gain 8 Food Supplies.
11
The expedition uncovers abandoned ration packs, preserved food stores, or edible supplies hidden beneath the snow and ice. Though not a major discovery, it is enough to noticeably aid the survivors. Gain 8 Food Supplies.
12
Usable fuel cells, heating components, reactor rods, or burnable wreckage are recovered from the frozen landscape after a successful scavenging effort. Gain 16 Fuel Supplies.
13
A small Ice Vunker warren or similarly valuable hunting opportunity is discovered within the wilderness. After a lengthy pursuit through snow and ice, the expedition returns with a respectable amount of meat and usable hide. Gain 16 Food Supplies.
14
A hidden emergency shelter, forgotten storage point, or abandoned frontier facility is discovered partially buried beneath the snow. Enough fuel and heating material remains intact to significantly improve the group’s survival prospects. Gain 18 Fuel Supplies.
15
The expedition discovers surviving medical stockpiles amongst wreckage, abandoned camps, or ruined facilities. Though much has been damaged by the cold, enough remains usable to help stabilise the wounded. Gain 10 Medical Supplies.
16
A major hunting success is achieved somewhere within the frozen valleys or forests of northern Varkesh. Whether through skill, patience, or sheer luck, the expedition returns with enough meat and materials to feed many survivors. Gain 30 Food Supplies.
17
A substantial fuel cache is uncovered within the wilderness, perhaps an industrial stockpile, emergency depot, mining reserve, or intact section of wreckage still holding usable reactor material. Gain 30 Fuel Supplies.
18
An abandoned mining station, frontier shelter, or isolated outpost is discovered remarkably intact beneath the snow. Though long deserted, enough supplies remain to greatly aid the survivors. Gain 20 Food Supplies and 20 Fuel Supplies.
19
Against the odds, the expedition successfully brings down a fully grown Nortunder after an exhausting and dangerous hunt through the frozen wilderness. The enormous carcass provides vast quantities of meat, fat, and hide capable of sustaining the camp for days. Gain 50 Food Supplies.
20
The expedition uncovers an extraordinary find deep within the mountains, an intact logistics depot, hidden emergency reserve, or untouched cache somehow preserved beneath the ice. The discovery dramatically improves the survivors’ chances of enduring the wilderness. Gain 25 Food Supplies, 25 Fuel Supplies, and 10 Medical Supplies.
