The Zula Rangers

The Zula Rangers were founded in the aftermath of the reconquest of Zula IV, created to serve as the sharp edge of the Dominion’s growing military power. Drawn from the most capable and battle-tested soldiers across the powerbase’s many campaigns, the Rangers represent the finest home-grown special forces unit within the Dominion.Swift. Silent. Organised at battalion strength, the Rangers specialise in rapid, high-intensity operations where shock, aggression, and speed are paramount. Their doctrine emphasises close-quarters combat, violent precision, and overwhelming force delivered at the decisive moment. Whether storming fortified positions, spearheading boarding actions, eliminating enemy command structures, or conducting deep strike raids behind hostile lines, the Rangers are trained to end engagements before the enemy can properly react.
Selection into the Rangers is notoriously demanding. Many recruits are veterans of brutal campaigns fought across the Dominion and beyond, chosen not only for exceptional combat ability, but for discipline, resilience, and unwavering mental fortitude under extreme pressure. Ranger candidates are expected to operate in isolated and hostile environments with minimal support, maintaining cohesion and effectiveness even amidst chaos and attrition.
A small number of Rangers are additionally assigned to ceremonial duties, serving as honour guards for high-ranking Sith Lords, military commanders, and visiting dignitaries of great importance. Chosen from amongst the most disciplined and distinguished members of the battalion, these Rangers appear in full dress uniform during state ceremonies, military parades, and official receptions across the Dominion. Their presence is intended not merely to impress, but to embody the strength, discipline, and prestige of the Dominion itself.
Central to this ceremonial role is the wearing of the pelisse, the distinctive black overgarment trimmed in white fur and braid that has become synonymous with the Rangers. The right to wear the pelisse is not granted lightly. Rangers must first complete a gruelling selection and conditioning course designed to test both physical endurance and mental resilience far beyond conventional military standards. Those who emerge successful earn the privilege of wearing the garment as a visible badge of honour and distinction.
By decree of the Dark Lord himself, no military formation within the Dominion may wear a pelisse unless it has won great honours in service to the Dominion. As a result, the garment has become a symbol not only of elite status, but of sacrifice, proven loyalty, and battlefield excellence.
To serve within the Rangers is considered one of the highest honours available to a Dominion soldier. Their black uniforms and white-trimmed insignia have become synonymous with relentless professionalism, ruthless efficiency, and the uncompromising will of the Dominion.
