The Last Will and Testament of Major Aresand

I, Caden Avantum, known throughout much of my life as Major Aresand, being of sound mind and making this declaration freely and without coercion, do hereby set forth this as my final will and testament. It is my wish that this document supersede any previous testament, instruction or declaration made by me, whether written or spoken.

I appoint my wife, Lord Dauphine Hirauth, as the principal executor of this will. There is no person in the galaxy whose judgement I trust more completely, nor anyone better placed to understand not merely the words contained herein, but the intentions behind them. Should uncertainty arise in interpreting any provision of this document, I ask that her judgement be accepted as my own.

To those named throughout these pages, I ask a favour. If I have left you something from my estate, understand that it was never chosen lightly. I have accumulated rather more wealth than I ever expected to possess and certainly more businesses than any spacer had a sensible right to own. Credits alone, however, are meaningless. Every bequest recorded here has been made because I counted you amongst my friends, because I respected you, or because our lives became intertwined in ways that deserved acknowledgement. I ask each of you to stand witness to this testament and, should circumstances require it, assist Dauphine in ensuring that my wishes are carried out fairly. I trust your collective judgement enough to leave part of my legacy in your hands.

Before anything else, I wish to speak of my family, for they are the only inheritance that truly matters.

My children, Treilyn Avantum and Larynda Avantum, are the son and daughter born of my marriage to Dauphine. They shall bear my true family name and carry forward the Avantum line. Whatever achievements I enjoyed throughout my life, none compare to becoming their father, and I hope that when they are old enough to read these words they remember me not as a heroic figure who saved the galaxy, but simply as the man who loved them beyond all measure.

It would, however, be dishonest of me to pretend that my life began with marriage. Before I met my wife I lived freely, travelled widely and enjoyed the company of more women than propriety would recommend admitting within a legal document. I have no regrets for that life, for it eventually led me to the one woman I wished never to leave, but it would be naïve to assume I leave behind only the family I know.

Should there be children born during those earlier years, conceived before my marriage or in ignorance of it, I acknowledge them without shame. They are welcome to bear the surname Sands, reflecting the name by which much of my later life became known, and I ask that they never be judged for circumstances over which they exercised no choice. If any such children should one day seek answers regarding their father, let them be received with kindness rather than suspicion. Whatever failings belonged to me should never become their burden.

There is one further matter upon which my conscience has lingered over the years.

I have known many women, carnally and otherwise. I would like to believe that I treated them honestly, and I know that I never knowingly deceived any of them regarding my intentions. Even so, honesty does not always spare another person from hurt. My work frequently carried me away without warning, my interests changed with alarming speed in my younger years, and there are undoubtedly women who remember me less fondly than I remember them. Some deserved more time than I gave them, others deserved better farewells than they received, and a few probably deserved considerably better judgement than choosing me in the first place.

For that reason, I direct that a charitable refuge be established somewhere within the Zula Dominion for women who have found themselves abandoned, abused or left without support. Let it be a place where they may rebuild their lives with dignity, free from fear or want, and let no questions be asked of those who seek its shelter. I ask each beneficiary of this estate to contribute towards its construction and continued operation according to their means. If, in some small way, this refuge balances a few of the scales I left uneven during my life, I shall consider it one of the better investments I ever made.

(Can someone put that on my grave?)

To my wife, Lord Dauphine Hirauth

You are already filthy rich, and will no doubt get richer, so I am under no illusion that you would need the wealth I have accumuluated. For that reason, I do not leave these assets to you as gifts, but in trust for our children. I know of no safer hands in which to place them, nor anyone better suited to ensuring they are passed on wisely rather than squandered through youthful enthusiasm.

Into your guardianship I place The Court of Queens, my luxury cruise company; as well as Red Star Security, who serve to provide the cruise liners security; Red Beard's Reserve, my excellent whisky distillery; and my Investment Portfolio, accumulated over many years of heavy handed deals and advice from Meimei. I ask only that you preserve them until Treilyn and Larynda are ready to inherit not merely the assets themselves, but the responsibility that accompanies them.

To you personally, I leave my penthouse upon Nar Shaddaa. It has witnessed some of the happiest days and nights of my life, shared with the woman I love. Should you ever find yourself missing me, I hope you will return there, pour yourself a glass of Red Beard's Reserve and remember the fool you chose to marry.

PS - There's something in a panel under the bed if you ever miss me.

To Qani'lyn'zheqan

I leave you fifty-one percent ownership of my underworld enterprises upon Nar Shaddaa and beyond. The remaining forty-nine percent shall remain the property of Treilyn and Larynda, with all profits generated by those interests to be deposited into accounts established for their benefit until they reach adulthood.

When I first entrusted you with managing my affairs, I knew I was taking a risk, because you're actually a bit loca. But you soon proved yourself to be more than a Majordomo, but also one of my best friends. In fact, Treilyn and Larynda will no doubt consider you to be their crazy aunt, which I guess makes you family.

I ask only that you continue to manage those businesses with the same pragmatism and violent intervention that has served them so well thus far. Make money, avoid unnecessary wars and perhaps one day find the Chiss aristocrat you always deserved.

Take care, cheeka.

To Jade

According to Huttese law, you were a slave, but I now declare you a free woman. If some bureaucrat or Hutt chooses to argue the point, I feel like the Dark Lord owes me more than one favour. Should that fail, ask Dauphine and I am sure she'll argue the point with her saber.

I also leave you sufficient credits that you should never again concern yourself with earning a living unless it is because you genuinely wish to do so. Spend them wisely, though not so wisely that you forget to enjoy them. You have been selfless for so very long, you can now afford to indulge yourself.

There is, however, one request I hope you will honour. Continue caring for my children. Give them all the affection I can no longer offer, and should any child claiming to my offspring ever arrive at your door looking lost, make sure they are okay.

Whatever was left in Aresands bank account. So a lot of moolah no doubt.

To Lord Nar

I leave you Major Leisure, because I cannot imagine anybody more suited to owning it. We raced speeders, we plunged into the depths of the oceans and explored jungles together. If that isn't leisure, then I don't know what is.

I have no doubt your life will be filled with trials and tribulations, so when you need to let loose, you can always take a ride on a speeder at my your race track on Denedre Prime and think of the fun times we had.

To Lord Sendahl

I leave you Major Exports and Hotel Reverie. We had plans for the Hotel which we never got time to develop, which is a shame. But a good idea should never be wasted. And if it fail spectacularly, I shall be safely beyond the reach of any criticism.

To Sith Linnavi

I leave you Major Studios.

I created Denedre Days and Denedre Nights specifically to punish you for making a comment about my children. I wanted to embarass you so you would learn your place. But as it happens, I actually liked what resulted from that process. And say what you like about your doppelganger, but she has a fantastic rack!

I also acquired a fully equipped music studio with ambitions of establishing one of the Dominion's premier entertainment companies. I even entertained the idea of producing a girl group, which history will now forever be deprived of hearing. I leave that dream to you instead. Perhaps you'll succeed where I ran out of time.

To Lord Anairith

I leave you Port Treilyn on Verdanis. I only ask that you do not rename it, because I wanted it named for my son.

I still have fond memories of you as a wide-eyed acolyte, and even as a sith you were always someone who was a good sport and who had a laugh with me. The ascension to Lord changed things, which is natural I suppose, but I still counted you a friend. I hope this small token of my friendship counts for something.

Oh and I acquired a fourth ship for the Court of Queens I never dedicated to anyone. I leave you that honour. The Queen of Small doesn't really work... but you'll think of something I'm sure.

To Lord Vyshtal

I thought you were a decent sort, one of the better ones actually. I almost feel bad about crushing your flowers. So I leave you my assets on Ntari, I hope they serve you well. The fishy smell is nothing to do with me.

And do try to remember what I taught you about dancing: it's all in the hips!

To Operative Catyn

I leave you my ship, The Nothing Special. It's a bit old and worn down, the paint is peeling off and I'll admit I did crash it one too many times. But beneath the surface, the systems still purr and if you jump in the cockpit and push go... it's a runner. Just like me.

Take care, Catyn.

To Special Operative Svilena

I knew I was dead the moment you beat me in the marksman competition. Seems fitting I leave you my armoury with all its blasters, slug throwers, high yield explosives and armour. The real prize is my rifle collection, as I seemed to acquire a great many of these over the years.

I tagged one to be given directly to Treilyn as it was my favourite, and another which was a gift from Dauphine is to go to Larynda. Maybe one day they'll do some hunting. The rest, including the coveted position as #1 sniper in the powerbase, is now yours.

Just lots of blasters and assorted high end equipment.
