Zula Sportsball League
Because Huttball just isn't Imperial

1765329412521.png

In a bid to continue raising the morale of the people of the Zula region, the Dark Lord has seen fit to re-commission another season of the Sportsball League for a 5th Season. A violent game, where five players struggle for control of a ball which they aim to throw or kick into the other team's net. The game is very clearly influenced by the Huttese sport, Huttball, but with the refinements that come with being in the Empire.

Forming a Team

To form a team you must first make a successful Wealth and Influence roll against a Wealth Rating of 5. This will allow you to create a team name, team logo and the five distinct personalities of your first five players.

  1. Your first five players are given freely as part of forming the team, but they must all be either Novice Defenders, Novice Midfielders, or Novice Attackers (see below).
  2. A team may only have five active players at any given time, but you may have additional players in the reserve list to swap out before any given game.
  3. You can purchase additional players for your team (or have them purchased for you) using the W&I system and the relevant ranks below. You may also propose events through the usual routes to acquire new players.
  4. You should try to be colourful with your team name, logo and players.
  5. A template has been created so you can post your team roster below this post, and it will then be added to the team list.

Statistics

Each player has four statistics, Attack Power, Midfield Power, Defence Power and Star Power. The combined score for five all five active team players is what decides the teams total statistics.

Attack Power - Decides how many D20 you roll when attacking.
Midfield Power - Decides how many D20 you roll when attacking.
Defence Power - Decides how many D20 you roll when defending.
Star Power - Determines how many re-rolls your team has to use throughout a game.

Purchasing Players

Beyond your first five players, you can choose to purchase additional players using the W&I system and the Wealth Ratings listed below.

Big Name Players have a * in Attack, Midfield and Defence, this is to represent the player being with a big name in that area and so they can move their 1,1,2 power points to different spots.
Example: Big Name Player (Attacker) - Attack 2, Midfield 1, Defence 1

Should there be any changes to your players or new players added, contact Atonur to have them edited within the team list.

How a Match is Played

Each match is played in four quarters, with each quarter beginning with a round of midfield play. Midfield play requires players to roll a D20 for each point of Midfield Power they have. For every roll of 15+ they score a success. The player who gains the most successes in midfield may then decide whether they wish to attack. In the event of a draw, the player with the highest total roll wins midfield play.

The attacking team then roll as many D20 as its teams Attack Power permits, with each roll of a 15+ counting as a success. The defending team do the same to try and block the attacks, with each roll of a 15+ counting as a success. The attackers score a point for every successful attack that is not blocked. The defender scores a point if they roll two more successes than the attacker.

For example if the attackers rolled 4 successful attacks and the defenders rolled 2 successful defences, the attackers would take a 2-0 lead. If on the other hand the attackers rolled 1 success and the defenders rolled 3 successes, the score would be 0-1 to the defender.

Once the first quarter is played, the second quarter begins with another round of midfield to decide if the winning player will attack or defend. Once all four quarters are played, the match will end in either a victory for one team or a draw.

League Play

The number of weeks the league will run for will be decided by the number of teams participating, but each week a team must play a different team in the league until everyone has played every other team. So if the league has six teams, it will last five weeks.

A win grants three points, a draw one point and defeat gives no points. Should the season come to an end and two teams are on the same points, the team with the highest goal difference will win, and should the goal difference be the same it will go down to head to head.

There will be a mid-season break halfway through the season for a month before play continues.

Once a match is played, make a small match report and post it below; please include who has scored and the general score of the match.

Sponsorship

Teams will be able to be sponsored by outside sources or businesses belonging to other members of the powerbase. Should a sponsor choose to invest they shall have a personalised small ad if their team wins, running alongside the result of the match played.

Owners of the teams are not permitted to sponsor their own team, and instead are free to negotiate with other powerbase members on a deal that might fit them both. This gives those with small upstarts or larger businesses to get more eyes upon their dealings.

They shall also have their name beside the team upon the team list.

Rewards

The top three teams in the league, at the end of the season, will win a hefty prize for their teams owner(s) in the form of wealth, influence and their players increasing in stats. Naturally first place will win the highest prize, then second place and so on.

Playing Together

A team can be owned by multiple player characters, allowing them each to contribute their monthly W&I rolls to buying better players.

Constance Crusaders, formerly known as Pikin Patriots, is the first team in the Sportsball League formed by an Imperial. It's owned by Idun Astra and based in Constance, Zula IV. Their team colours are red and black and their current captain is Tristan Quell.

The team is marred by controversies of xenophobia and human supremacy elements can be found among their supporters. Perhaps it's those very controversies that have kept them relevant, because their season results have been pretty unimpressive so far.

Dancing Daisies is a returning underdog to the Sportsball League, the tenth officially formed team. It is owned by Lord Anairith. The team is headquartered currently on Denedre Prime. Their team colours are lavender and royal blue and their current captain is Thorn "Buttercup" Kilian.

They placed dead last and won the Wooden Spoon trophy in the third season, struggled up from the bottom with a couple of upset victories in the fourth season, and are ever bursting with enthusiasm for another go in the field.

In the first match up of the season, the Verdant Wardens faced the Thornback Vipers amidst the cheering and jeering of the fans within the crowds.

Straight away the Wardens locked in, team captain Faye Berry and crowd favorite Garston 'Wheelbarrow' Tyken controllling the midfield as Viper Neno 'The Thorn' Kaap (C) fought desperately for control. Two versus one, veteran versus greenhorn was never going to end well, however. With a solid elbow from Wheelbarrow to The Thorn's face, the moment was stolen as the Warden's defensive team doubled down; stalling any ability for the Vipers to move on the field and securing the first goal of the match.

The first quarter proved the foundation for the rest of the match, Wardens Colbrix Myles and River Oyondr swapping in for their counterparts in midfield, as if to test out the new blood - and to really make it bleed. Valiant efforts were made by Vipers Neno 'The Thorn' Kaap (C), who ended up battered, bruised, and overall pummeled by the Wardens control of the midfield play. To the Vipers credit, as the whistle for the second round called out its end, the Vipers had stalled any further scoring from the Wardens; their attack going all out as Kavrix Draal and Tyvra Hesh slammed into Taelor Oron and Faye Berry in what turned into a bloody melee that had the crowd roaring!

The moment the third round began, midfield was abandoned entirely. Vipers had the ball, and made a run for the Wardens defense. Kavrix Draal made a daring play, faking a ball run as Tyvra Hesh slipped down the side of the field, almost unseen. Not quite unseen enough, though, as Tyvra Hesh ended up face to face with Wardens star player Taelor Oron; the tank of a man stopping the push and wrestling the ball from Tyvra Hesh right as the buzzer rang the end of the round.

Still 1-0, and the final round had begun. The Vipers had abandoned the midfield completely, Neno 'The Thorn' Kaap (C) nursing injuries from the first two rounds as the rest of his team sought to fight on for control. The Wardens never went on the aggressive, leaving the Vipers defenders, Vrilla Vos and Korrin Tal with little to do - unless they went on the attack. Was it bait? Probably. Did it work? The whistle for the end of the final round called amidst a pileup; both teams tearing at one another for the ball as the crowd shouted on encouragement. A bloodied Wardens captain Faye Berry could be seen slapping Vipers Tyvra Hesh on the back, and pointing over to Vipers captain Neno 'The Thorn' Kaap (C) with a gesture of encouragement.

The Vipers had survived their first clash in the sportsball arena, and they'd held their own against the veteran winners of the previous season. Only one goal was scored, leaving the Vipers as serious possible contenders as the season progresses.

Final Score:
Verdant Wardens: 1
Thornback Vipers: 0

Season Summary - Constance Crusaders
ConstanceCrusaders1 (1).png

After claiming victory in their final match of the fifth season of Sportsball, and securing their third place on the leaderboard, the Constance Crusaders and their fans erupted in celebration. It had taken three seasons for them to reach the top three, but the training and effort had finally paid off.

Taking interviews from various attending news outlets from across the Dominion, team captain Tristan Quell voiced his thoughts on the season as a whole, claiming the opposition had been tougher than ever and they had fought tooth and nail to claim one of the top spots. When asked what match stood out the most, he surprisingly spoke of their 'fight' against the Vio'lekks, applauding them for their strong defence despite genetical shortcomings.

He further gave praise to both New Nyx Heat and the Verdant Wardens for their incredible performance, irrespective of who would end up claiming first place.

The last and final shoutout was given the people of Constance, who he thanked for their warm welcome after their recent relocation. Next season, he vowed the Crusaders will reach even further heights and finally beat the New Nyx Heat.

As the team returned to Constance, they were celebrated as heroes along the streets, with a parade thrown in their honour along the Halcyon Strip of Little Kaas.

Despite this result, the team announced the Astra Domuum would seek to step away from its managing role in lieu of more pressing matters, and the team was seeking new management for the next season.

Season Summary - Verdant Wardens

d464ea94cf21bb54904a228ceb8c65aa.png

As their final game rounded to a close, fans of the Verdant Wardens could rest easy knowing their team had once again secured a top three score. While the final match between the Dancing Daisies and New Nyx Heat would surely be watched with much anticipation, the fact that the powerhouse defenders had succeeded in not allowing a single goal to be scored against them was already the cause for much celebration.

Captain Faye Berry was content giving interviews, praising the overall sportsmanship of the season, and pointing out how much more pleasant the competition was when there weren't rumors circling of 'certain teams' stooping to doping. Conveniently, the team that had been forced to fend off most of those rumors last season had chosen not to enter in season five - viewers could make of that what they chose.

All in all, the return of the Wardens to their home pitch gave the normally stoic planet of Eserac VI something to celebrate. Some of the celebration even spilled out into the streets - a rarity to be sure.
