Known Background
Water Wages
Lucian Tav Marrow was born on the desert world of Jaguada, among the archaeological worker camps scattered across its tomb fields and excavation sites. These camps served the interests of off-world Sith, Imperial overseers, and private powerbases who sought ancient relics and fragments of forgotten Sith history. Lucian was counted among them, one more camp-child born into a life of dust and rationed survival. His father was a nameless labourer who had long ago entered service in exchange for avoiding Imperial imprisonment. His mother, a Sith archaeologist attached to the same operation, died shortly after Lucian’s difficult birth, leaving him to be raised among workers.
Life on Jaguada was harsh even by Imperial standards. Water was scarce, and among the excavation camps it served as both payment and leash. Workers were rarely paid in credits; instead, they received just enough water and provisions to keep them useful, but never enough to buy freedom. A poor season of failed discoveries left Lucian’s division with too little value to justify generous rations. In those weeks, his father slowly died from dehydration, exhaustion, and malnutrition, another disposable servant uncared for. Lucian himself bore the marks of that life plainly. As a child, he was gaunt to the point of appearing more bone than flesh, his frame narrowed by thirst, hunger, and the careful rationing of survival. Combined with his father’s long-forgotten family name, the other servants found humour in giving the boy one of their own: Marrow — a cruel joke born from the fact that some swore they could almost see it beneath his skin.
Dust to Dust, Ashes to Ashes
Smuggling was common among the camps, athough rarely spoken of openly. Overseers and trusted workers quietly moved worthless or low-grade relics off-world, selling them to collectors, minor nobles, and failed scholars eager to possess some fragment of Sith antiquity. During one tomb excavation, however, the work crew triggered a collapse deep beneath the sands. The chamber sealed, the workers died, and Lucian alone survived the night below. In the darkness, surrounded by the dead and the buried stone of the ancient Sith, he heard whispers he could not fully understand. Whether they were echoes, instinct, or hallucinations, they guided him toward escape.
Lucian emerged from the tomb changed. He was not stronger in any sense, nor had he gained some grand secret of ancient power. Yet something in him had sharpened. His fascination with the ancient Sith, the dark side, and the deeper mysteries of the Force became obsessive. He grew more watchful, and more ambitious, increasingly unwilling to die nameless in the sand.
In a final attempt to free himself from the camps, Lucian took a desperate risk and exposed the smuggling operation within his division, turning the overseers’ quiet corruption into a weapon. The gamble nearly killed him. Those implicated moved quickly to silence him, and Lucian was brought close to execution before the Sith responsible for the division sensed something unusual in him. What the camps had dismissed as luck, instinct, or desert superstition was recognised as Force sensitivity. Rather than waste him, the Sith claimed him for training, sending him from Jaguada’s tomb fields to the Korriban Academy.
Lessons on Freedom
At the Sith Academy, Lucian quickly learned that power was not measured by ability alone. Appearance, speech, lineage, and reputation all mattered. He began to slick back his copper-red hair, force refinement into his accent, keep his vestments clean, and bury every trace of the servant camps behind controlled manners and careful silence. His sharp mind, quiet ambition, and Force potential earned him enemies among his cohort, many of whom saw in him something rehearsed, hungry, and difficult to place.
During his final Academy trial, Lucian found success through a combination of his developing Sith abilities and the instincts Jaguada’s deserts had forced into him. Harsh terrain, buried structures, heat, thirst, it was not unfamiliar to him. By the trial’s end, Lucian had survived and proven himself useful enough to pass.
Upon completing his Academy training, Lucian was temporarily taken in for apprenticeship to Lord Merikh, who furthered his education in the ways of the force and allowed his eventual crafting of a personal lightsaber. This was, however, short lived - as the same Lord would die 6 months later to infighting sparked by political dispute. Lucian was later moved by powers greater than his own into the Perfidious powerbase, there to serve the interests of its Dark Lord. Lucian saw this as an opening: a new hierarchy to climb and rivals to outlast.
Having escaped the sand and the grave of nameless labour, Lucian now seeks not merely survival, but legacy. He intends to carve himself into history as the ancient Sith once did, until the name Marrow is no longer a joke between those buried in dust, but something remembered among the stars.
Known Skills & Expertise
Physicality & Equipment:
Standing at 5'10", Lucian possessed neither an imposing stature nor a particularly muscular frame. A childhood lacking the necessary protein and nutrients had left him with a slim, lightweight build—better suited to speed and agility than raw strength. His clothing, though always kept meticulously clean, was chosen primarily for appearance and freedom of movement, favouring dexterity over protection.
His weapon of choice was a standard single-bladed lightsaber, constructed from inexpensive black, red, and gold-coloured materials. Its blade ignited in the traditional deep crimson of the Sith. Beyond this, Lucian carried a variety of common, non-combat tools, including a datapad, holocommunicator, pocket knife, and hair comb.
The Blade:
During his early academy training, the fundamentals of Form I were drilled into Lucian as the foundation of all lightsaber combat. He understood its theory almost instinctively, though applying it effectively required considerable concentration.
As his training progressed, Lucian found himself better suited to Form VI: Niman, whose balanced and versatile approach complemented his abilities. He quickly developed an appreciation for the form and has since trained in it to an adept level.
The Force:
Lucian is an adept Force-user with a broad range of abilities at his disposal. Drawing upon a strong connection to the Force, he is capable of producing potent applications of telekinesis and Force lightning. With intense concentration, he can also perform minor alterations to his surrounding environment.
He has additionally demonstrated an aptitude for the more esoteric applications of the dark side. Lucian can strengthen and enhance his allies through the Force, while afflicting his enemies with illusions capable of confusing, distracting, or slowing their minds. Defensively, he possesses some ability to create Force and Mental barriers, though these have proven less reliable than his offensive techniques.
Physical enhancement remains by far his weakest area of Force use. Lucian is unable to perform significant acrobatics or greatly increase his strength through the Force, finding only Force Speed as useful enough for combat applications. Such abilities feel unnatural to him and remain particularly difficult to grasp, perhaps owing to a childhood spent inhabiting a physically weak life.
Miscellaneous:
Lucian was an avid learner who thoroughly enjoyed the archives and libraries available at the academy. He possessed a firm grounding in many of the subjects expected of an aspiring Sith, including history, philosophy, language, and literature.
He held a particular passion for Sith history and language, though his opportunities to formally study the latter remained limited. As a result, he instead began experimenting with the languages of other species and currently possesses a limited but steadily growing understanding of Zabraki.
