Journal: Sweet Emotions

The following musings are all the private notes of Lord Arazhar until stated otherwise. After all, who leaves journals lying around for people to read?

What do you call upon to deepen your reserves of power?

This was a question I posed to our Sith in recent months, and the results were informative, even validating, if somewhat unsurprising.
I believe that there are fundamentally seven emotions to which the Dark Side strongly responds. Some may refer to them as sins, but I do not believe in such a thing, only in passion and in power.

I do believe however that they are unequal in their strength, and that ultimately one must be superior. I also believe that one such source alone will be insufficient for my needs; I require power in abundance, the Dark Side made manifest, a purer expression than even the workings of more mundane Sorcery, if it can ever truly be described as such.

Each emotion, each ripple in the Force is a strand in its tapestry. I must find the strongest strands and the pattern in which to weave them in order to create something more. With this, we will be a force to be reckoned with.

It is possible. I have felt it, breathed it.

It is possible.

Lust

When many think of passion, they first think of lust. It is a strong motivator, certainly in the heat of the moment; after all, we are all aware of crimes of passion. However, it is one that is difficult to sustain for most - especially without becoming distracted, particularly if that lust has a specific source, a spark to the flame.

There is undeniably strong power there, but it can be challenging to focus into something more by the wielder. Thus I believe that it can be used most effectively in ritual settings, where the lead ritualist can direct those heady emotions provided by those who fuel the ritual.

It is something for which I already have designs and resources; what I require is an opportunity to put it to the test. Next time we return to Zula, perhaps.

I must check the status of my promised participants.

Greed

Greed, hunger, a desire for more, both physical and metaphysical. I have seen and felt its more negative, desperate, gnawing side used to effect by Lord Nar time and again.

To do as she does is not something that is viable for most, nor do I believe it sensible, particularly for my needs; the state that must be achieved to know true, genuine, physical hunger and the near-maddening desire to sate it is detrimental, weakening to subjects that they might know it, diminishing the power available for me to use.

Material greed is a more viable motivator, but one I believe to be ultimately short-lived, residing most strongly in the heat of the moment, even more so than lust.

Thus I believe it to be useful in combat, or when a short burst of focus is required, but not something I can use for my purposes.

This may seem ironic, given that what I desire is simply more, but those are my desires, and his of course. It may be that some participants have that greed for more power, more status and recognition by participation, but most will not have the required depths, I feel.

It will provide a more passive undertone, a depth of colour and flavour to the tapestry, but other than promising those involved some recompense for their involvement, I do not believe it can be shaped and built to provide a foundation as other aspects of my studies can.
