Ekirus is a prosperous frontier world of warm coastlines, alpine mountain ranges, fertile valleys, and untamed northern wilderness. Though officially neutral, the planet’s immense industrial capacity, strategic position, and population of nearly one billion inhabitants have made it a target for powerful factions operating along the northern frontier.

Ekirus is a neutral frontier world famed for its striking natural beauty, prosperous coastal cities, and immense untapped wilderness. Located on the northern fringes beyond the firm authority of either the Galactic Republic or the Sith Empire, the planet has become a crossroads for trade, diplomacy, mercenary companies, and refugees fleeing conflict elsewhere in the galaxy.

To many spacers, Ekirus is one of the last true outposts of civilization before you enter the true wilderness of the furthest galactic reaches.

Large portions of the planet enjoy a pleasant climate, with warm summers, turquoise seas, dense evergreen forests, fertile valleys, and long stretches of white coastline. Elegant seaside cities, vineyard regions, alpine resorts, and prosperous industrial towns dominate the inhabited zones. Tourism, trade, and shipping thrive alongside heavy industry and resource extraction.

Yet beyond those populated belts lies another Ekirus entirely, one of frozen mountain ranges, ancient forests, volcanic plateaus, and isolated frontier territories where civilization rapidly gives way to danger.

This duality defines the world. Ekirus is beautiful, wealthy, and cultured near its population centres, but savage and unforgiving once one leaves the safety of the coastlines and trade corridors. In some ways, Ekirus is a mirror of the very region of space it inhabits.

Population and Culture

Ekirus is home to approximately one billion inhabitants spread across sprawling coastal cities, industrial ports, isolated mountain settlements, and agricultural territories. The majority of the population resides within the temperate southern and equatorial regions, particularly along the prosperous coastlines of Asterra.

Roughly seventy percent of the population is Human, with the remaining thirty percent consisting of a broad mixture of alien species. Twi'leks, Mirialans, Zabraks, Pantorans, Nautolans, and near-human species are all common sights within the major cities and trade hubs. Unlike much of the wider galaxy, species tensions on Ekirus are comparatively muted, largely because survival, trade, and economic prosperity are valued above ideology.

Ekiran society is heavily shaped by industry, shipping, and frontier commerce. A significant portion of the population works within:
  • Heavy industry and manufacturing
  • Mining and mineral extraction
  • Shipbuilding and repair
  • Trade and logistics
  • Agriculture and food production
  • Private security and mercenary work
The people of Ekirus are generally regarded as practical, resilient, and somewhat distrustful of outsiders, particularly large governments. Many Ekirans view both the Republic and Empire as distant powers more interested in exploiting the planet than protecting it.

Despite this wary attitude, Ekiran culture is surprisingly vibrant and sophisticated in the major urban centres. Coastal cities are famed for open-air markets, waterfront festivals, music halls, luxury resorts, and grand public promenades overlooking the sea. Food and drink hold great cultural importance, with long communal meals, seafood dishes, wine culture, and seasonal festivals forming a major part of social life.

Family and local identity are deeply important. Most citizens identify more strongly with their city, province, or trade syndicate than with the planet as a whole. Rivalries between cities are common, though usually economic rather than military.

Ekirans also possess a strong appreciation for personal freedom and self-determination. Firearm ownership is widespread, military training is common, and many settlements maintain local militias. This culture of preparedness stems from centuries of piracy, frontier warfare, and isolation from the galaxy’s major powers.

Though generally civilised and prosperous along the coasts, the further one travels inland or northward, the harsher life becomes. Mountain communities and frontier settlements are often tougher, more insular, and heavily dependent on mining, hunting, or extraction industries. These populations tend to pride themselves on endurance and self-sufficiency, often viewing the wealthy coastal elites as soft and overly decadent.

Climate

Ekirus possesses a varied climate shaped heavily by ocean currents and dramatic elevation changes.

The majority of the population lives within the temperate equatorial and southern coastal regions, where conditions are surprisingly mild and pleasant. Summers are warm without being oppressive, typically ranging between 22°C and 30°C in the most desirable coastal areas. Winters are cool and wet rather than severe, particularly around the major seas.

These regions are famed for:
  • Long white beaches.
  • Rocky turquoise coastlines.
  • Dense pine and cedar forests.
  • Mountain lakes.
  • Fertile wine valleys.
  • Warm island archipelagos.
  • Alpine resort towns.
In contrast, the northern interior and high mountain chains are far harsher. Temperatures plunge rapidly with elevation, and the deep interior of the northern continent remains brutally cold for much of the year. Snowstorms, glaciers, and frozen passes dominate these regions, creating a hostile wilderness suited for only the hardiest of explorers.

The Continents

Asterra ☀️
Asterra is the heart of civilization on Ekirus and home to nearly sixty percent of the planetary population.
The continent is dominated by warm coastlines, temperate forests, fertile plains, and sprawling modern cities. Vast highways and rail networks connect prosperous urban centres overlooking beautiful bays and inland seas.
The western coastline is especially famous for its beaches and resort cities, drawing wealthy merchants, diplomats, and corporate elites from across the frontier.
The further inland one travels, however, the terrain becomes rougher and more mountainous, eventually rising into dramatic alpine regions rich in mineral deposits.
Major settlements include:
  • Talaris, the glittering coastal metropolis considered the unofficial capital of the planet.
  • Vey Solis, a luxurious resort city famous for beaches, casinos, and nightlife.
  • Korseth, an industrial trade city built around massive commercial docks.
  • Eidholm, an alpine city known for mountain estates and tourism.

Varkesh ❄️

Varkesh forms the cold northern continent and unlike prosperous Asterra, Varkesh is rugged, isolated, and sparsely populated. Immense mountain chains divide the continent into isolated valleys and frozen basins. The coastline is battered by violent storms, while the interior remains snow-covered for much of the year.
The Southern Expanse 🌾
The southern continent is less densely populated but comparatively pleasant along its coastlines. Rolling hills, evergreen forests, and fertile agricultural land dominate much of the region. Large vineyards, ranches, and farming collectives supply the rest of the planet with food, luxury alcohol, and textiles. Wealthy aristocrats often maintain enormous countryside estates here.
