Aggressive Scavengers

Dead Signal is a band of pirates, salvagers and smugglers scouring Republic, neutral and deep space for lucrative and poorly defended trade routes to raid and pillage. While the ships sometimes work independently, the usual procedure is for the pirate ships to fly in, disable the ships and clean out its interior of any loose valuables. After that, the salvage ships move in to start to dismantle the ships themselves, taking with them larger components, raw material and scrap. Anything that doesn't have an immediate buyer within the Dominion is instead fenced by smugglers across various black markets, along with ransoming the occasional prisoners.

In their wake are broken husks of ships, if anything remains at all.

For the crew, slavery is a secondary objective, only taking valuable individuals like scientists, doctors or rare species. They do however replenish their own members by recruiting those they deem worthy, and who would rather join their privateering instead of...dying.

They have their roost on Tobra Station in the Little Sister system, where they prepare new raids and lick their wounds.

RoleLarge scale scavenging, trace removal

The Pale Hunger is a heavily modified bulk freighter designed for the sole purpose of salvaging ships and other structures in the endless void. Despite the weathered appearance, the ship is very durable, with a thick, reinforced hull and shields strong enough to hold off starfighters until it can jump into hyperspace. Though it is equipped with mining lasers to help tear through structures, the angle and speed of these does not give it a lot of offensive capability, relying on escorting ships instead.

The most unique feature on the ship is its front, which can be opened up to reveal a gaping maw. Using tractor beams, it guides small to medium ships in before activating a series of extremely powerful industrial magnets, empowered by the ship's reactor to literally tear the ship apart in each direction, reducing it to scrap in just a few moments. Since any ship component is destroyed in this process, it's mainly used on stripped vessels, in times of urgency, or to remove traces of what may have happened.

The Pale Hunger is crewed by around 50 people, including several salvage crews which are sent out to perform manual scavenging once a prey has been secured. Lastly, the ship's directional thrusters are not strong enough to handle its weight, meaning the ship is not able to land and survive in standard gravity.
