Operation Ascendancy
Perfidious Invasion of Trion II

Background

Imperial forces under the command of Lord Thogtaz are currently laying siege to the planet of Trion II but have failed to make progress in conquering the planet.

Perfidious has been tasked with conquering the planet and stealing the victory from Lord Thogtaz.

Known Intelligence

Trion II, a planet placed within the Nouane sector, is a planet that has suffered being nestled between the Coreward worlds and the Seat of the Empire. Throughout the many wars it has been victim to brutal conquests but, until now, has still managed to remain independent from the two factions. That changed when the Empire prepared to take the planet for its strategic position as to interrupt trade through the Vathkree trade corridor. In a ditch effort to keep some kind of autonomy over itself, the governor of Trion II aligned herself with the Republic to gain its defenses.

Since then there has been a brutal war as the Empire dedicated a small fleet to the conquest while the Republic focused on far more important battles elsewhere. Now having been besieged for three months, the defenders of Trion II are slowly breaking. Three bastions remain on the planet as the besieging force has otherwise managed to take control.

These bastions are the capital of the planet, named Vastea. The capital’s protective barrier has kept it from being reduced to rubble through orbital bombardment while a small contingent of Jedi and other Republic specialists has managed to keep the ground forces at bay. The military bases of Dicerth and Thustea are the two other remaining bastions, both protected by the almost diminished armies of Trion II. The former has served as a place to protect civilians from smaller towns and cities around the planet while the latter holds what remains of Trion's naval force.

Lord Thogtaz, the human in charge of the Imperial forces, has failed to finish the war of Trion II which has already taken too long. The ground forces have repeatedly been pushed back by guerilla tactics alongside the more trained Republic troops that have dug themselves firmly into the capital without any reason to surrender.

The Lord himself has always been serving underneath Darth Armul’s shadow. He has participated in many operations throughout the galaxy and has managed to make a name for himself by impressing his superiors again and again. While his name does not hold any weight back on Dromund Kaas, it has started to be noted within the Sphere of Military Command. He is known for quick and decisive attacks which would explain his failures so far on Trion II where the siege has been grinded to a halt.

While Trion’s planetary forces were mostly wiped out during the initial skirmishes when the Empire first arrived, some still remain and are protecting the bastions that are still holding. The capital not only has the support of the Jedi and the republic, but also holds the majority of surviving defenders alongside a scrambled militia. All in all the estimations of remaining defenders reach around four thousand units of varying expertise.

It is hard to say how accurate this is, however, as Vastea’s population is just around a million which means that the militia can fluctuate considerably. Furthermore, the two other military bases have trained defenders as well with access to airships and hovertanks alike.

Report from Prime Malachai

My Lord,

As you asked I have examined the planet of Trion II. The information gathered is limited, at best, due to the ongoing siege that has resulted in landing on the planet being difficult on its own. The Imperial forces are stressing the shields to their limit through constant orbital bombardments but, even then, they seem to remain strong. Given that Dicerth and Thustea both stand just as strong as the capital itself, it is safe to assume that the central core is found within the capital itself. The city’s governor and his military command resides within the parliament building located at the northern end of the city. The mountain protects the city from the north meaning that the building itself is well protected.

Where exactly within the city is difficult to say. It would seem that Lord Thogtaz knows but has ordered his assets to keep such information to themselves. Even then, the shield surface is symmetrical which, given its technology, indicates that it is either several cores surrounding the city itself, or a main central one in the city’s core.

As for the military bases. Both are several hours away from the capital itself. Dicerth has little of note and has been disregarded as a threat. Still, there are soldiers present with access to military equipment. Thustea, on the other hand, has at least three squadrons of fighters ready to be deployed which has already successfully crippled Lord Thogtaz’s own attempt to gain aerial domination over Trion II.

Signed,
Sekti Prime.

Operational Overview

Perfidious will launch a rapid assault on the besieged city of Vastea on Trion II. The goal will be to arrive suddenly, spread confusion amongst forces already deployed upon the surface and then launch a rapid and deep penetrating attack on the city to disable the shield generator and capture the governor's palace.

Operational Objectives

  1. Secure intelligence on shield generators used by defenders.
  2. Spread confusion amongst both the besieged and those laying siege.
  3. Eliminate shield generator with a general assault.
  4. Capture the governor's palace and force a surrender.

Sub Operations

Operation PrismElements of Intelligence Domain will travel to Trion II the day before the main force and attempt to capture a senior Imperial Officer under the command of Lord Thogtaz to secure intelligence relating to the Republic's shield.
Operation TremorFleet will arrive in orbit and commence bombardment of Vastea’s shield with the intention of distracting both the enemy and Lord Thogtaz from the landing of our assault force.

Assault shuttles escorted by starfighters will ferry the 1st and 2nd Marines to positions on the city edge. The Rangers will be deployed into the mountains north of the city.

Signals will be jammed to maximise confusion and help conceal the deployment of our own forces. Lord Thogatz will be informed of our intention to offer military support and propose a meeting in the coming days.
Operation ShieldbreakerOperation opens with a massive ion bombardment from the fleet to weaken the cities shielding to allow time for our forces to breach.

Arcane Domain will join the 1st and 2nd Marines and conduct a powerful illusion ritual to cause confusion amongst defenders as they make it appear attacks come from different angles than our true forces.

1st and 2nd Marines will push forward in force, attempting to draw as many defenders as possible to engage them.

From the north the Zula Rangers and Air Assault will push towards with the objective of destroying shield generator(s). Sith will join the Air Assault forces for deep penetrating attack whilst Rangers will move forward more slowly to offer reinforcements.
Operation TalonWhilst ground forces conduct operations, several squadrons of starfighters, bombers and gunships will engage any potential reinforcements from Dicerth and Thustea.
Operation PyramidionLord Vasraan will lead an assault on the governor's palace with the Zula Rangers and Air Assault, aiming to beat Lord Thogtaz to the prize.

Estimated Losses

Heavy losses are expected amongst the 1st and 2nd marines. Lighter losses are anticipated amongst the Rangers and Thunderborn who will be attacking from the north which ought to be less heavily defended.

Several starfighters are likely to be destroyed, but we should enjoy massive air-supremacy meaning Republic starfighters will either not engage or else do so at insurmountable odds.

Possible Inter-Sith Conflict

It is possible that Lord Thogatz will engage in hostile actions should our forces be seen to steal victory from him. In such an event, we shall aim to secure our victory and withdraw to avoid such an outcome. If pushed to resolve violently, Lord Thogatz will be offered a duel to avoid loss of Imperial resources.
